Director Update

Dan Fazio, Director

In late September we received over a dozen requests to extend H-2A applications, in some cases for several weeks, due to the unusually hot summer temperature and the smokey conditions which retarded the apple harvest. A two-week extension request is almost automatic if you need more than that let us know right away.

We are always working on ways to improve the H-2A guest worker program to make it the most efficient. Right now we are surveying members, and implementing changes for 2018 based on survey information. For example, look for simplified "open book" pricing - no markups. You get only the services you need.  And watch for the January rollout of our state-of-the-art cloud-based MODUS database, which allows employers to view the progress of their application in real time, as well as allows you to track the progress of individual workers as they collect documents and prepare to travel.

Register now for ID, OR, or WA!Next, if you are currently utilizing the H-2A Legal Worker Program or are interested in learning more about it, attending an H-2A Workforce Summit is a must. Meetings are being held January 9 in ID (Nampa), January 10 OR (Clackamas) & January 17 WA (Wenatchee). Registration is now open! Learn more. To make it even more convenient, the WA H-2A meeting will be held the day before our Annual Labor Conference this year. Learn more.

Last, we have added a new tab to our website with more information about services offered through our Training Center in Kennewick. See "Be in the Know" below. We hope you take advantage of these member perks.

As always, thank you for your membership.

Dan Fazio, Executive Director

HRAnswers - Great Question!

Q.  If an employee loses his/her check, who pays for the stop payment? If you have mailed the check and you cannot prove the employee got the check, is the answer the same?

Wafla members can submit unlimited HR questions through HRAnswers located under the members only tab at our website.
